Heartworm: As Much As I Can
Tell You in Less than 2 Hours

Beginning
with the basics, this program will cover heartworm biology, mosquito
vectors, and the pathogenesis and clinical signs of heartworm disease.
Advice will be given on when and how to test for
heartworm disease (including for
routine and noncompliant cases), the value of microfilaria tests, and how
to confirm test results. Treatment of heartworm disease (e.g., preadulticide evaluation, pulmonary thromboembolism
risk, and therapy protocols) will also be covered, as will prophylaxis,
focusing on drug function, timing, and perceived lack of
efficacy/resistance. Education of clients will be emphasized.
